Another very good day. A slow morning, followed by a day full of music, places, and people. I did a lot, but it didn’t feel like checking things off a list. I was enjoying being here.
I went to hear a singer-songwriter at the Country Music Hall of Fame. After playing at the Commodore the night before, it was interesting to sit in the audience again and watch how another songwriter performs and shares their music. Then came a visit to RCA Studio, where Elvis recorded so much of his music, and a stop at the art museum.

For dinner, I found myself at a communal table in Germantown with about ten other people. Such a smart idea. Sit down, share a meal, and suddenly you’re talking with people you would probably never have met otherwise. After a few days spent mostly exploring in my own world, it felt good.

In the evening, I went to see Julia Jacklin in concert before heading to the Five Spot.

The music at the Five Spot was incredible. The kind that makes you want to move, and I did.

I danced, and I felt so liberated. In touch with my body, enjoying music I really liked, happy to be there. Two women nearby were wonderful dancers, and we started dancing together. That led to a conversation with a fellow singer-songwriter, and an unexpected connection. So much in common, so much energy and joy. One of those encounters you couldn’t have planned.
Of course, part of my brain immediately started asking questions. I’m leaving in two days. What can come of meeting someone now? I don’t know. But I enjoyed it, and I’m looking forward to seeing her again.
I also spoke with Luca and Louisa. It was lovely to see them together, so sweet with each other. Another moment that made me happy.
Looking back, the feeling that stays with me is freedom. Choosing where to go, sharing a table with strangers, dancing without holding back, and making room for someone new.
I went to bed feeling good. Another day I was very happy to have lived.
